Projects I have completed in my Integrated Media and Strategic Communications classes


Through my Integrated Media and Strategic Communication degree, I learned how the history of communication was shaped. Learning history has allowed me to gain a better understanding of the major and how it is beneficial to society and the world around us. Throughout the classes I have taken relative to the communication major, I have learned about ethics in the realm of communications and digital media. Professional communication is surrounded by ethics, trustworthiness and reputation that is conveyed through the field.





Strategic Communications

When taking Strategic Communication, I gained knowledge within professional settings and situations. I studied companies in depth and created documents that would help the growth of the companies. Some of the documents included a strategic plan in addition to a presentation that included a SWOT analysis and marketing strategies. Taking this class has allowed me to understand the complexity of businesses and organizations and how to overcome problems that may be faced.



Sports Journalism

Multimedia Writing

While taking Multimedia Writing, I gained skills in journalism and public writing. I wrote many sample pieces including print stories and news releases. Taking multimedia writing has allowed me to understand the importance of writing for an audience and community. In addition, I also generated complex and engaging ideas for story topics.


Comm Theory and Research

Through my Communication Theory and Research class, I learned how to demonstrate skills with research concepts, tools and methodology. In addition, I also wrote a paper where I analyzed research and texts to finalize my thesis statement. By taking this class, I developed an understanding of and gained skill in new emerging communication technologies.


Merciad

Being a sports editor for the Merciad has given me journalism experience in addition to editing, proofreading and making corrections when needed.


City of Erie Internship

While working in the Mayor’s Office at City Hall, I demonstrated proficiency in oral communication. I was recorded on a local radio station, Happi 92.7, to market Erie’s top event CelebrateErie. By being on the radio, I got more comfortable with public speaking, especially in regard to a large group setting. In addition to being on the radio, I participated in meetings where I generated ideas and organized and managed projects. While oral communication was a main aspect of the internship, I also marketed the City and also CelebrateErie through Instagram. I promoted the event by making graphics and writing copy to relay messages to the public.



Mercyhurst University Student Communication Team

Along with being a student at Mercyhurst University, I also work in the Marketing Department on campus. Being a member of the Student Communication Team, I have developed an understanding and gained skills in current and emerging communication technologies relevant to the communication and digital media field. I help promote and market Mercyhurst by generating ideas for social media, which is an aspect of communication that is constantly growing and improving. I am determined to use my skills to create a strong social media plan that betters the University.
